1902

Ding Yanyong  丁衍庸 ( 1902-1978 ) was born on April 15, in Maoming,  

Guangdong Province  China.

1918

He learned painting from the age of 16.

1920

He was one of the first Chinese artists to go to Japan, to study Western painting

at the Kawabata Art Institute, and then at the Tokyo Academy of Fine Arts.

1925

Back in China, he taught at the China Arts University in Shanghai.

He became a Pioneer of Modern Western Art.

1941

He was named Professor at the National Academy of Arts of Chongqing.

He founded the Guangzhou Provincial Art Institute.

1946

At the end of the exhibition of contemporary paintings on China, the Cernuschi

Museum  Paris, acquired one of his works: Banana Plant and Froggs. 

 1949

He emigrated to Hong Kong.

1957

He was one of the founders of the Fine Arts Department of  New Asia College,

incorporated into the Hong Kong Chinese University ( 1963 )

1973

He taught Chinese painting at the Department of Foreign Studies at Hong Kong  

University, and headed the Art Department of Tsinghua College.

1978

He died at St.Teresa's Hospital in Hong Kong, at the age of 76, as a result of illness.
