Vice Dean of the Zhejiang Academy of Fine Arts

1893

Yan Wenliang   颜文梁 ( 1893-1988 ) was born on July 20 in Suzhou, Jiangsu Province  

 

China.

   

1922

With several friends, he founded the Suzhou School of Fine Arts.

   

1928

He moved to study in France, at the National School of Fine Arts in Paris.

   
 

His pastels, Kitchen, The Workshop and his oil painting The Ruiguang Pagoda in Suzhou,

 

were selected for the Salon de Printemps in Paris.

   

1931 / 1937

Back in China, he was Director of the Suzhou Academy and taught Art at the National

 

Central University of Nanjing, then at Zhejiang University in Shanghai.

   
 

He devoted his life to the practice, the education and the diffusion of the new art.

   

1978

He published a book summarizing his approach to color: Comment on color.

   

1988

He died on May 1st, at the age of 94.
