1961

Lu Guang was born in Yongkang, Zhejiang Province, China.

   

1980

He used a camera for the first time while working in a factory silk in Yongkang.

   

1987

He created his own studio.

   

1993

He studied at the Central Academy of Fine Arts and Crafts in Beijing.

 

( the current Academy of Fine Arts of Tsinghua University )

   
 

As an Independent photographer, he embarked on a series of documentary projects

 

focused on social and environmental issues :

 

- gold diggers - small coal mines - drug addiction - AIDS

 

- the pollution of the seven rivers of China.

   
   
   
   

Awards

   

2004

He won the World Press Photo Award for his reports on AIDS in villages of Henan

2008

Winner of the German photography prize Henri Nannen.

2009

Winner of the W. Eugène Smith Grant for Humanistic Photography

2010

He got a grant from National Geographic to support his project on pollution

 

in China and its impact on the inhabitants.

2013

Dutch Prince Claude Prize

2015

3 rd World Press Photo Award for his project - Development and Pollution
