1912

Chen Dayu  陈大羽  (1912-2001) was born on May 21, in Chaoyang, Guangdong,

 

Province  China.

   

1935

He graduated from Shanghai Art College.

   

1946

He went to study in Beijing, with Qi Baishi    齐白石 (1864-1957 )

   

1950

After teaching at the Shanghai Academy of Arts, he was a professor at the Nanjing

 

Institute of Art..

   
 

Famous educator, painter and calligrapher, he specialized in painting flowers and

 

birds. His roosters series made him famous worldwide.

   

1980

He exhibited in China, at the Jiangsu Museum of Art and the following year at the Shanghai,

 

Art Museum, as well as abroad in United States, at the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco

  and in Japan. ( 1988 )
   

2001

He died on June 1st, at the age of 89, in Nanjing, where he retired.

   
 

On the occasion of the centenary of his birth, a major touring exhibition including

 

180 works ( 1945 - 2001 ) was organized by China.
