Huang Yongyu was born on August 24, in Fenghuang, Hunan Province, China.

To help his family, he started to work in a porcelain factory, very early. |

1940
|
He learned a lot, under the guidance of artists Li Hua and Lin Fengmian,,

|
in Chongqing.
|
|
Self-taught, he studied Literature and Art.
|
|
|
1948/1953
|
He moved to Taipei and to Hong Kong where he worked as an Art editor.
|
|
His uncle, the writer Shen Congwen persuaded him to come back and teach at
|
|
Beijing Central Academy of Fine Arts.
|
|
|
1950/1960
|
He devoted himself to the wood engraving. |
|
|
1960
|
He began with colored inks, landscapes, flowers and birds. |
|
|
1966/1972
|
With others artists, he was sent to countryside, to work as peasant.
|
|
|
|
At the end of the Cultural Revolution, his works began to be recognized abroad.

|
He was appointed Commander of the Order of Arts, by the Italian Goverment.
|
|
|
1989
|
He settled in Hong Kong several years and continued his career as an artist, |
|
before moving to Beijing then in his hometown. |

|
2004
|
The Inernational Olympic Committee awarded him, the Olympic Art award, for his |
|
contribution to the development of Arts and Culture. |
