Wang Du 王度 was born on December 25, in Wuhan, Hubei Province China.
|
|
|
As a child, he was interested by drawing and painting.
|
|
|
|
|
1972
|
During the Cultural Revolution, he worked in the mines while continuing
|
| |
his artistic work. He produced 16 posters and paintings.
|
| |
|
|
1976
|
He exhibited for the first time and he moved to Guangzhou.
|
| |
|
|
1981
|
He took the entrance exams and he enrolled at the Guangzhou Institute of Fine Arts,
|
| |
the second year.
|
| |
|
|
1985
|
He left his studies overly traditional for him. .
|
|
|
He founded the collective called Southern, and they held performances and talks.
|
| |
|
|
1986
|
First experimental exhibition by the south artists, Zhongshan University in Guangzhou.
|

|
|
1990
|
After nine months in prison for his ideas, he decided to leave China to Paris with

his wife, a French journalist.
|

First exhibition in Paris, Anne de Villepoix Gallery : Reliques.

He taught Art at the University Paris VIII, for two years.

He participated in the Venice Biennial with an installation : Flea Market.

Since this moment his fame was international. |

He created large sculptures from crumpled newspapers enlarged through a 3D scanner.

He lives and works near Paris, in Alfortville France.
